5 Parallel Highway Crossings

Five bores of 180m length and 20m depth drilled under a busy highway and parallel to a railway

To install 5 parallel highway crossings in Melbourne using Gyro Module, we drilled parallel to a railway line with extremely high interference. This job was carried out with a small 50-ton rig using Prime Horizontal’s 4 ¾” Mon-Mag assembly. ParaTrack Gyro Module was the preferred steering system as accurate depth requirements under the railway meant a combination of surface coil and Gyro Module enabled the bores to be drilled as per the drill profile from entry to exit accurately.

Not even a month after breaking the record for longest Indian HDD Intersect, we broke that record by another 3 meters!
It now stands at 4091m/13,421ft. This time around the pilot was for 24” steel pipe. Same location and similar conditions.

Field Service Engineers

Job Description:

• Travel to foreign locations as directed to perform guidance operations.
• Act as PH service representative (smart, clean business like and professional appearance).
• Research and collect all information necessary for the planning stage and design of the project on site (initial land survey topography, coil setup, probe & DHA setup, Fault-finding steering tools and client’s rig electrical system and Bore path design.
• Install equipment, test it to make sure it is functional and all safety requirements are met.
• Support the local teams of technicians/engineers and supervise operations at location.
• Operate steering tool system & determining optimum steering method to achieve borehole success.
• Conduct drilling operations according to project specifications and maintain equipment.
• Liaise with client regarding daily process of the project, potential steering issues & presentation to client of viable alternates for success.
• Daily contact with office regarding project progress, accurate and timely reporting to supervisor as issues develop on site.
• Timely submittal of all job related paperwork & computer files to the office.
• Preparation of final as-drilled report & CAD drawing and presentation to client of all paperwork including daily reports.
• Personally test all guidance equipment and take responsibility for all equipment being clean and in good working order prior to mobilization wherever possible.
• Keep up with changes in technology, sign up with for additional training and education courses when necessary.

Required knowledge, skills and experience:

The successful applicants will have a University degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience in the field. Strong mathematics backgrounds integrated with excellent computer and communication skills, and demonstrating a high level of professional Integrity.

Prime Horizontal is proud to have been a part of completing India’s #Longest Horizontal Directional Drilling crossing under the Brahmaputra river, with NRP Projects Private Limited, which is coincidentally the world’s #fourth longest. Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) with a joint venture of IOCL, ONGC, GAIL (India) Limited , OIL and NRL, are laying this pipeline for gas distribution in the Northeast region of India. It connects the Northeast to the rest of India. HDD method is utilized to cross the Brahmaputra River to connect both ends of pipeline of this project.

Job Description:  The job included 2 parallel bores, separated 5m away from each other. The 300 mm pipe was for gas. Depth below entry point was 26m, and we were drilling 64m deep below a steep hill in the middle of the bore.
