To provide Steering and guidance services to the International Pipeline industry. Involves international travel, ability to work in a team and individually under pressure, good communication and social skills.

Required:

• Ability to travel and work away from home.
• A university or college qualification in Engineering or related subject, incl. Maths.
• Hands on and Practical: likes working in the field outside as well as in the office.

PH successfully completes first Gyro Module job in Australia 

Job title:  Gas Pipeline Relocation

Tracking used:  Gyro Module & ParaTrack 2

Location: Perth, WA, Australia

Distance: Crossing #1 = 250m, Crossing #2 = 320m

Depth: 8m below entry point ground level

Ground: Bassendean Sands and Ferricrete lenses

Pipeline: 6” Steel Pipe

Technique: Jetting

The job required the drilling of 2 crossings using jetting technique and steering with ParaTrack Gyro Module (PGM) which was a requirement from the project owner. Particular care and caution was taken as drilling was within 1m (at its closest point) of an existing gas pipeline, overhead power lines, railway tracks, as well as, other underground communication services lines posed a magnetic

challenge.

Not being affected by Magnetic interference being a specific advantage of the Gyro Module this was an ideal project for the Gyro Module & ParaTrack combination. ParaTrack monitored how close we were to an existing pipe.

To enable the use of Gyro Module to work with a smaller drill rig, we used our 4-3/4” OD modified Non-Magnetic tooling.

Due to a moderate risk of hydraulic fracturing near the exit points of each crossing annular pressure was monitored using a PGM compatible PWD (Pressure While Drilling) module.  As an additional request due to a moderate risk annular pressure was had to be monitored due to a moderate risk of hydraulic fracturing near the exit points of each crossing, for that reason we used the PWD (Pressure While Drilling) module compatible with PGM. No hydraulic fracturing occurred thanks to the close monitoring of the pressure and drilling performance.

Both crossings were completed in 6 days and our client was satisfied with the results and was pleased to have Prime Horizontal as their partner in their initial experience using magnetic guidance systems and the Gyro Module.

Job Description:

• Travel to foreign locations as directed to perform guidance operations.
• Act as PH service representative (smart, clean business like and professional appearance).
• Research and collect all information necessary for the planning stage and design of the project on site (initial land survey topography, coil setup, probe & DHA setup, Fault-finding steering tools and client’s rig electrical system and Bore path design.
• Install equipment, test it to make sure it is functional and all safety requirements are met.
• Support the local teams of technicians/engineers and supervise operations at location.
• Operate steering tool system & determining optimum steering method to achieve borehole success.
• Conduct drilling operations according to project specifications and maintain equipment.
• Liaise with client regarding daily process of the project, potential steering issues & presentation to client of viable alternates for success.
• Daily contact with office regarding project progress, accurate and timely reporting to supervisor as issues develop on site.
• Timely submittal of all job related paperwork & computer files to the office.
• Preparation of final as-drilled report & CAD drawing and presentation to client of all paperwork including daily reports.
• Personally test all guidance equipment and take responsibility for all equipment being clean and in good working order prior to mobilization wherever possible.
• Keep up with changes in technology, sign up with for additional training and education courses when necessary.

Prime Horizontal extends range of downhole guidance tools

Prime Horizontal continues to introduce innovations to the HDD market with its latest being the ParaTrack Gyro Module, a guidance tool for unrivaled accuracy.

With no concern of magnetic interference from nearby active utility lines, shore piles, ship traffic or any other transportation activity, drilling may be carried out confidently, regardless of surrounding conditions. The ParaTrack Gyro Module runs in conjunction with the ParaTrack Steering Tool, providing the ability to tie in with the entire ParaTrack System of tools and software.

The ParaTrack Gyro Module is a north-seeking gyro system that is especially effective for initial surface entry, while absolute position may then be verified via the ParaTrack-2 Guide Wire or Beacon Tracker, providing confidence that the bore is measured accurately along the bore path as well as relative to the planned exit location prior to punch out.

Another Success with the ParaTrack Gyro Module

Another successful crossing completed with use of the recently released ParaTrack Gyro Module and great crew of Challenger Drilling. Challenger Drilling’s own Chase Lopez said “Fantastic service from Prime Horizontal, as always, and the use of the ParaTrack Gyro Module was spot on for this difficult crossing.” The project details were: 2600 feet with a 12 degree horizontal curve for 12 inch steel pipe crossing the Arkansas River near Tulsa Oklahoma.
